Policies

Registration and Tuition:

Register for classes by mail. If registering by mail, send completed forms and tuition payment to Main Street Dance Academy, 111 S. First Street, Peotone, IL, 60468. Late Registration may be available.
  • Printable registration forms are available online under Registration.

  • A $15.00 registration fee will be waived if registration is completed and tuition payment is made before the set semester deadline.

  • Three Installment Plan: (Only during Fall & Spring semesters) If a student alone takes more than one class, tuition may be made in three installments. A fee of $15.00 per student is then added to the total bill. These payments are due by the 15th of the month for the first three months of the semester.

  • Two Installment Plan: (Only during Summer semesters) If a student alone takes more than one class, tuition may be made in two installments. A fee of $15.00 per student is then added to the total bill. These payments are due by July 1st and August 1st.

  • Family Discount: 10% discount for two or more family members enrolled at MSDA.

  • Make checks payable to Main Street Dance Academy. In the memo line, write the dancer’s name.

  • Tuition is non-refundable and will not be prorated for late registration or missed classes.

  • We may withhold a dancer from performing if tuition is not paid in full.

  • Dancers must be registered before the first class is taken.

Class Placement:

If you are unsure which class is appropriate for a dancer, you can call for advice. Younger students are usually placed by age. Older students, or students with experience may need to come in and take a placement class. Instructors at MSDA reserve the right to place dancers into the appropriate level. During the first month of classes, students will be evaluated to ensure proper placement
  • Typically 3-4 year olds are placed in Pre Ballet I, and experienced 4 year olds and beginning 5 to 6 year olds in Pre Ballet II.
  • Tumbling class is for children ages 3 to 6.
  • Level I classes start at the age of six, with the exceptions of Hip Hop, Modern, Pilates, and Poms Technique.
  • For Beginner Hip Hop the student needs to be at least 8 years old or needs to be enrolled in Ballet IV, Intermediate, or Advanced.
  • For Beginner Modern, dancers need to be enrolled in Ballet IV, Intermediate, or Advanced.
  • To take Pilates the student needs to be at least 13 years old.
  • For Poms Technique I the students needs to be at least 10 years old.
  • Martial Arts I is for students ages 6 to 9, ages 10 to 13 in level II, and ages 14 to 18 in level III.
  • Mommy & Me class is offered for children ages 16 months to 3 years.
  • Adult classes are for 18 years and older.

Missed Classes:

Students can make up missed classes throughout the semester in a class of the same style and level, or one level below. Missed classes do not carry over to new semesters.


Dress Code:

In order to present and enfore a professional atmosphere, all students are required to adhere to the dress code provided for each class. Hair must always be pulled up and out of the face; buns are strongly recommended for ballet classes. Any dancer with improper footwear or dress attire will be asked to not participate for safety reasons. They may sit and observe the class.
  • Ballet I-Ballet IV/ Pre-Ballet: Pink or black leotard, pink or black tights, pink ballet shoes. Skirts optional.

  • Tumbling: Pink or black leotard, no tights or shoes, no skirts. Shorts optional.

  • Ballet Int/Adv: Solid colored leotard, pink or black tights, pink ballet shoes. Skirts optional.

  • Jazz/ Hip Hop:Solid colored leotard, tights, black or tan jazz shoes. Shorts, jazz pants, capris, MSDA logo shirts optional. No sneakers.

  • Tap: Solid colored leotard, tights, and black tap shoes. Shorts, jazz pants, capris, MSDA logo shirts optional.

  • Modern: Solid colored leotard and pink or black tights. Shorts, jazz pants, capris, MSDA logo shirts optional. Modern sandals optional for class but not allowed in performance.

  • Poms Technique: Solid colored leotard, tights, black or tan jazz shoes. Shorts, jazz pants, capris, MSDA logo shirts optional. No sneakers.

  • Pilates: Solid color t-shirt, leotard, MSDA logo shirt, tights, shorts, jazz pants or capris, sweat pants, or any other workout attire. Socks, no shoes.

  • Martial Arts: Black student uniform. Order forms available at MSD. $30 - $50 depending on size.

  • Men/ Boys: Solid colored t-shirt or MSDA logo shirt, leotard and tights, shorts, jazz pants, black sweat pants. Appropriate dance shoes.

  • Required dance shoes should be purchased at Main Street Dance Academy Apparel Shop so the faculty can ensure proper fit. The shop carries leotards, skirts, pants, MSDA logo apparel and much more!

Classroom Etiquette:

To keep order in the classroom and maintain a professional atmosphere, dancers should be aware of the rules and be on their best behavior at all times.

General Rules:
  • Do not wear gym shoes or sneakers in the dance studios. They will ruin the floors. There is a locker room to store your shoes, coat and other personal belongings during classes.

  • Please, no gum chewing, food, or beverages in MSDA dance studios.

  • Dancers must follow the dress code at all times. Remove all jewelry before class and have hair up securely out of face and off the neck. Any dancer with improper footwear or dress attire will be asked not to participate for safety reasons.

  • Tardiness: If a student misses any part of warm up he/she will be asked not to participate for safety reasons. He/she must sit and watch the remainder of class.

  • Performances & Costumes: Deposit amounts regarding the showcase, other performances, and costumes will be released at a later time.
Waiting Area:
  • When utilizing our waiting area, we ask that you be respectful toward all of our dancers and keep conversations at an appropriate volume. Also, while waiting, please silence your cell phones as a courtesy to the dancers and other guests.
Viewing Week:
  • Parents are invited to come into the studios and observe regularly scheduled classes on designated week. Please no flash or video cameras during class.
Student Showcase:
  • At the end of each school year in June, there is a student showcase. All students are given the opportunity to perform. For more information regarding the performance contact MSDA at (708) 258-3656.
